Cleaning and Maintenance of Rotary Evaporator

Rotary evaporators are mainly used for concentration, crystallization, drying, separation and solvent recovery in pharmaceutical, chemical and bio-pharmaceutical industries. Its principle is that constant temperature heating under vacuum conditions makes the rotating bottle rotate at a constant speed, and the material forms a large area film on the bottle wall, and it evaporates efficiently. The solvent is cooled by a high-efficiency glass condenser after evaporation and recovered in the collection bottle, which greatly improves the evaporation efficiency. It is especially suitable for the concentration and purification of biological products that are easily decomposed and denatured at high temperature. So, how should the rotary evaporator be cleaned and maintained in daily use?

Once the rotary evaporator absorbs dust or dirt, not only its performance will be affected, but also its service life will be shortened, more seriously, the experimental results will be directly affected. The equipment will inevitably be stained with ash or dust during the use or storage process, so the maintenance of the rotary evaporator should be mainly dust-proof and pollution-proof. Regular dust removal and cleaning are important tasks for the maintenance of the instrument.

Rotary evaporator cleaning method
1. Generally the equipment can be brushed from outside to inside with water or liquid soap to remove impurities, and the inner wall is then rinsed with distilled water or deionized water for two to three times. When cleaning glass equipment with a ground mouth, pay attention to protecting the ground mouth.
2. Glassware should not be scrubbed with a brush. It is usually poured with detergent. After soaked in water, pour it into or suck it into the container, and then rinse it with tap water and deionized water.
3. The sand core glass filter should be cleaned immediately after use. Choose an appropriate cleaning agent according to the sediment in the sand core to dissolve the surface sediment, rinse it with distilled water, then dry it at 110°C and store it in a dust-proof cabinet.

Rotary evaporator maintenance
1. Wipe each contact surface with a soft cloth and apply a proper amount of vacuum grease on it to prevent dust from entering.
2. Loosen each interface regularly to avoid the inability of the connector to rotate due to long-term locking.
3. The PTFE switch of each part should not be tightened excessively, which is apt to damage the glass.
4. Avoid deforming the PTFE piston when it is stationary for a long time in the working state. After shutdown, tighten each PTFE switch.
5. The sealing ring should be cleaned frequently.
6. The electrical part should be protected from moisture.
